The Stone That Saved My Mind: A Journey into the Kunlun Mountains
Share
Hi, my name is Wei Zhang, and I’m a product designer from Hangzhou, China. For most of my adult life, I worked hard to build a successful career. But over time, the constant pressure to meet deadlines and succeed began to take a toll on me. I developed chronic anxiety. I couldn’t sleep through the night, and each morning felt heavier than the last. I tried therapy, herbal remedies, and breathing exercises—but nothing seemed to help.

One night, while lying awake in frustration, I remembered something my grandmother once said: “When your heart is clouded, go to the mountains.” That simple phrase stayed with me. I began researching the Kunlun Mountains, a sacred site in Taoist philosophy. These mountains are believed to be a bridge between Heaven and Earth—a place where ancient wisdom still lingers. I discovered that there was a Taoist sanctuary called Yuxu Palace hidden in the highlands. Without much thought, I packed my things and left.

The temple stood in stillness, nestled among snow-capped peaks and pine-covered cliffs. A Taoist master greeted me and listened to my story. After a thoughtful pause, he said, “You’re not sick. You’re simply out of rhythm.” He then spoke of a cave, deep in the mountains, where a rare form of black obsidian could be found—imbued with energy that the mountain itself had cultivated over thousands of years.

He asked me to sit beside the stone every day. “Don’t seek healing. Just let your mind be still. Let it come on its own.”

I followed his advice. Every morning, I went alone to that cave. I sat next to the dark, glass-like stone, listening only to the wind and my breath. At first, it was difficult—my mind raced. But little by little, something began to change. After ten days, I felt a calm returning. By the thirtieth day, I was sleeping again—for the first time in years.
I returned to the Taoist master, humbled and filled with gratitude. I asked if I could take some of the obsidian to help others who were struggling like I had. He shook his head. “This stone belongs to the mountain. It’s not meant to be taken.”
I explained that my intention wasn’t for profit. I told him about the people I knew—friends, colleagues, and even strangers—who lived in mental chaos, just like I once did. I shared my idea: to create spiritual tools using the obsidian, crafted by traditional Chinese artisans, and to donate a portion of the proceeds to help restore Yuxu Palace.
He studied me carefully for a moment. Finally, he said, “If your heart is true, take only what the mountain offers.”
That’s how the Kunlun Protector was born.
Working with a master craftsman, we shaped the obsidian into pendants and bracelets. Each piece carries the sacred Yin-Yang symbol and the Bagua, which represent balance and energetic harmony in Taoism.
In Taoist tradition, energy flows through all living things. Stress, fear, and overwhelm disrupt this energy, causing imbalance and illness. The Yin-Yang teaches us that every force in life has its opposite, and healing happens when they are in harmony. The Bagua, with its eight trigrams, helps map and restore energy balance in people and places. When worn with intention, these symbols act as tools for realignment, reminding us that balance is always within reach.
We encourage wearers to use the Kunlun Protector during meditation or moments of reflection. The obsidian is believed to absorb negative energy, while the symbols guide the wearer’s inner flow toward balance. More than just jewelry, these are spiritual protection tools—crafted with care, rooted in Taoist tradition.
Because the obsidian is rare and ethically gathered, each piece is part of a limited edition. Once they’re gone, they’re truly gone.
And remember: a portion of every purchase helps restore Yuxu Palace, the temple that made all of this possible.

If you’re someone who struggles with anxiety, imbalance, or emotional exhaustion, I hope this story speaks to you. The Kunlun Protector helped me find my way back to peace. Perhaps it will help you find yours too.
